Researchers suggest that
advertising is highly responsible for
sending negative messages to young women that can be considered harmful. Some research suggests that the unrealistic
messages portrayed by the media in advertising have contributed to eating
disorders, poor self-image and low self-esteem in young people. On the
contrary, the opposing argument suggests that
the media is not responsible for creating an unrealistic portrayal of
beauty and that it is up to the individual to decipher (decide) what is real
and what is meant for entertainment. These people believe other factors
contribute to eating disorders, low
self-esteem and overall poor self image. Which of the above arguments do you
agree with and why?
Do NOT BEGIN THE WRITING JUST YET! YOU WILL WORK ON THIS IN CLASS.
